Internship & Job Placement
The Tourism Institute of East Africa is one where students do not have to worry much about Internship Placement. The number of partners the Institute has to take on our students for internship at a given time surpasses the number of students we send out. The demand is high. Therefore, the Tourism Institute of East Africa in partnership with Explore Africa Safaris and other Tour Operators, Restaurants, Hotels, Airlines, Travel Agencies, and Tourism Destinations, has designed a uniquely comprehensive, hands-on 2-3 months internship for students that have completed Bachelor Degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates in Travel, Tourism, Hospitality, and Leisure related courses to be given an opportunity to go through our unique training program so that we can recommend them for an internship placement with our partner organizations. The Internship Program exposes students to real-life in the industry. The internship involves but is not limited to real-time communication with potential tourists who inquire about different tour packages, tour guiding experiences in the national parks, and other tourism destinations, hotel bookings, planning, developing itineraries, report writing, office etiquette, management, administration, personal grooming, business English, exhibition and conference management, among others. Interns are required to visit different national parks and other tourist destinations. At the end of the program, good performing interns are shortlisted and their CVs entered in Tourism Institute of East Africa's database for jobs inquiries, and should any employer make any inquiries about job openings, the interns are highly recommended by the institute. At the end of the program, interns are not only given internship letters but are also given certificates for having completed an Internship Training Practical Program in different fields.
The certificate opens doors for students who have gone through TIEA's intensive and practical training program that many employers are always looking for. Employers send inquiries to the Tourism Institute of East Africa's Job Placement Support program looking for different highly trained personnel to take on entry-level, supervisory, and managerial positions in the tourism & hospitality sectors. Employers are not hiring people who are ignorant about what they are going to do, they are hiring people who can demonstrate their skills. We are living in an age where companies, businesses are as much as possible maximizing profits and minimizing expenses, so there is no way a private entity would hire someone who would take up 60-80% of the company's resources and only get 20% input from the new employee due to lack of skills and professionalism. Universities and other tertiary institutions are making money off students and they do not care about connecting with corporations, companies, organizations for jobs. Unemployment is biting graduates from all sides, and nobody seems to be caring about the cry of those who have spent over 15 years investing in education which they thought was their future, only to graduate with a paper that can not help one create jobs, or be employable. If you are reading, this article you are the lucky one, because at Tourism Institute of East we do it differently. Students who have gone through our training, have not had any problems getting internship placement and also job placement through our networks. The goal of the Tourism Institute of East Africa is to ensure that ALL students/trainees at any of the Campuses attain their goal in life and the purpose for which they got training. Tourism Institute of East Africa is unique compared to other tertiary institutes in Africa, in that we do not measure academic achievements based on one putting on a gown at graduation and a transcript. NO! We measure our students’ achievements by seeing them employed in their profession and/or seeing them start their own companies in their profession. This is done by the Tourism Institute of East Africa offering them practical, relevant, and professional skills needed in the industry and we go a step higher by CONNECTING ALL OUR GRADUATES FOR JOBS! That is one of the things that separate us from any other tertiary institutes.
The job Placement program was specifically designed to get jobs for our trained students. Because of the training our students attain, most of them are retained at their internship places. Students at all levels are taken care of: an internship, they are given an opportunity to look for places where they do their internship but once they fail then the Institutes provide them with different Internship opportunities where they choose from. The second stage is getting them jobs; graduates are given different options for job opportunities both within and outside of the country. TIEA management keeps on developing employers’ database who is contacted for any job opening.
Students are offered FREE consultation service, providing assistance in writing CVs, preparing for job interviews, and developing individual professional projects. The services available to businesses consist in providing information on internships, distributing lists of new graduates, publishing job advertisements, and pre-selecting curricula/candidates for jobs. Thirdly, students who may want to change jobs can also contact us or sometimes we contact them if the potential employer who has contacted us wants us to get them someone who has gained some experience. We contact those that show interest in changing jobs. We have shared and continue to share our experience with other tertiary institutions and universities the importance of keeping in touch with the job market and deliberately connecting with employers. If we all training institutions focused on skilling students, helping them start their own businesses through Incubation Centres, and exposing students to practical training, unemployment would be reduced to a minimum. Joining the Tourism Institute of East Africa will give you a new dimension of life.
Right from our training model of transferring relevant knowledge, and professional skills, to connecting our graduates for jobs, TIEA is a place for one to attain training because you are sure to achieve your goals in life. Our graduation is conducted every year (until the next year 2019 when we are going to have another graduation after the one of December 2018), but within that period, most of our students get jobs even without a graduation ceremony. You are free to contact our students who are working by visiting the students' page that shows who is working where. Every student/parent/guardian/sponsor will be happy to see the return on investment in their/child’s education after spending the hard-earned money. At Tourism Institute of East Africa, we guarantee a return on investments, IF you cooperate with us. We can do it because we have done it and we purpose to continue doing it-to train employable human resources and entrepreneurs in Travel, Tourism, Leisure & Hospitality.
