DURATION
This Diploma Course in Cabin Crew Services & Hospitality Management is a 2 years program divided as follows: four (4) Semesters of class and thereafter you fly to South Africa or Addis Ababa for your practicals at South African Airways facilities or Ethiopian Airlines facilities. The Semester takes up to 12-14 weeks, and 4 weeks of holiday. Upon the completion of your practicals, you are awarded a Flight Attendants’ license. In addition to this, our new partnership with AMADEUS East Africa will expose you to the AMADEUS Reservation training Program the Global Distribution System (GDS), which will equip you with skills to work as a Travel Consultant with any Airline and Travel Agency in the world. You will be awarded an AMADEUS Certificate. By the time you graduate at the Tourism Institute of East Africa, you will have acquired skills in Aviation, Travel, Tourism, Hospitality, and Leisure and you will have the following certificates: Diploma in Cabin Crew Services & Hospitality Management, Flight Attendants License, Certificate from AMADEUS. The Skills you have will be backed up by the qualifications listed above. We do our best, to prepare Human Resources for the Tourism & Hospitality Industry. Time runs really fast, by the time the 3 semesters elapse at TIEA, you would be shocked that you did not know many people at campus because we have lots and lots of activities for students that time passes by without noticing it.
A Cabin Crew Attendant/Flight Attendant/Air Hostess is responsible for ensuring the safety and comfort of all passengers traveling on a particular flight. Our students are trained beyond Customer Care and Customer Service, they receive in-depth training in Travel, Tourism, and Hospitality. This enables them to work comfortably in aviation, tourism, leisure, and hospitality. Cabin Crew has an awesome responsibility that is why we offer them in-depth training. They are responsible for ensuring that passengers remain safe throughout the duration of the flight and they will be expected to take charge in emergencies. They make sure that the cabin is a safe environment for its occupants and also make sure that passengers are as comfortable as possible. They will do everything they can to make the flight enjoyable and will attend to the needs of all passengers throughout the flight. Whilst the airline industry attracts more men than women, particularly in senior roles such as pilots and airport managers, many more women than men work as cabin crew attendants. The gender imbalance has been recognized by airlines during recent years and many have taken steps to address it.
Salary
The salary scale is based on the level at which one is e.g. Individuals who have just started working as cabin crew attendants, and Senior cabin crew attendants, who will have worked as members of the cabin crew for 5 years and above. The precise salary provided to a cabin crew attendant will differ depending upon the airline. However, there is a lot of connections, networking, travel, and career development in the aviation industry among others.
Responsibilities
The typical tasks performed by a member of the cabin crew include but are not limited to:
Ensuring that their own luggage contains the appropriate content and does not go against safety regulations
Attending pre-flight briefings during which cabin crew attendants are informed about their role as well as unusual elements of the upcoming flight which may need special attention.
These include passengers with particular requirements or medical conditions
- Checking the safety equipment onboard
- Making sure the cabin is clean
- Checking that all the meals and drinks are ready to be served after take-off
- Making sure all the safety information is in the seat pockets
- Helping passengers board the aircraft
- Performing safety demonstrations
- Ensuring luggage is stowed away and that seat belts are fastened
- Making announcements during the flight
- Serving meals and drinks
- Attending to the particular needs of the passengers throughout the flight
- Selling duty-free products
- Taking responsibility in emergencies and providing first aid
- Providing information about the destination and any immigration requirements
- Helping passengers disembark
- Making sure the cabin is empty after the flight
- Writing flight reports and alerting officials about any problems
Qualifications
The training conducted at Tourism Institute of East Africa and the practicals are done in South Africa and Ethiopia with Ethiopian Airways thereafter one gets an International Flight Attendant’s License, the First Aid training, and IATA reservation system by AMADEUS is good enough to land one a job in both a charter plane and commercial aircraft anywhere in the world.

Working conditions
Cabin Crew Attendants/Air Hostesses spend most of their time in an aircraft but they also work on the ground, writing reports and taking part in briefings at the airport. Shifts may be long and the hours are irregular. Weekends, public holidays, and evenings will often be taken up by work. Cabin crew attendants may be able to work on a part-time basis but hours will still be unsocial at times.
Experience
Any experience in an environment which shows the ability to deal with members of the public will be valued by an employer. The 3 months internship we expose our students too as they work in 5-star hotels gives graduates more opportunities to work in aviation.

Career Progression
After a few years, cabin crew attendants can apply for a position as a purser and then Chief Purser. This individual will be in charge of the entire cabin during a flight. Pursers can then progress to the position of Cabin Manager. Other career progressions include the Customer Service Trainer and Safety Equipment and Procedures Trainer.
